1 April 1897 • Thursday

Tooele Weather unsettled.

I went to field & plowed with four horses [p. 153] In the evening attended Irrigation Board meeting.

2 April 1897 • Friday

Tooele Weather Stormy.

I repaired carriages & wagon & put in Drain troughs. In the evening attended another Irrigation Board meeting.

3 April 1897 • Saturday

Tooele Weather changeable. Sunshine & Shower.

I hauled load of straw from Field & repaired gate way there. Shaved & attended Stake Priesthood meeting & offered the opening remarks.

Bp. Shields took dinner with me. I did some writing in afternoon.

4 April 1897 • Sunday

Tooele Weather fair

I went to Salt Lake City by A.M. Special & Attended Conference meetings & met at Sister Sarah’s where I put up, my mother, Alice Ann, Asenath, Nerva & others of our folks.

5 April 1897 • Monday

S. L. City Weather threatening.

I attended all the Conference meetings & Priesthood meeting in the evening. [p. 154] Slept at Sarah’s.

6 April 1897 • Tuesday

S. L. City. Weather unsettled some rain. I attended all the conference meetings & in the evening my Bro. Fred. & I went to the Theatre & saw the Mascot opera & staid all night at Stephens. I met the train Morning & evening for Alice but she did not come in.

7 April 1897 • Wednesday

Sugar House Weather fair.

I attended the Special Priesthood meeting in A.M. Did some purchasing in afternoon. Alice & George with Sarah & Mamie came in by team arrived at 4 P.M. Spent the evening at Sarahs. Took Alice Ann & my wife up town to do some trading, with team & carriage

8 April 1897 • Thursday

Sugar House Weather fine.

I took Alice Ann, Mother & My alice up town with team to trade & in the afternoon went down to Stephens where we had a celebration of the birth of my mother a grand Success. [p. 155]

9 April 1897 • Friday

Sugar <House> Tooele Weather fine.

I took Alice & children to 7:40 A.M. train & then loaded & started home arriving home about 4:30 P.M. Did my writing & retired early in the evening.

10 April 1897 • Saturday

Tooele Weather pleasant & warm. I went to field & got plow & load of manure to put on garden. Got potatoes of R. Wills & cut them & planted, plowed &c. Attended Irr. Bd. meeting at Court House in the evening & presided.

11 April 1897 • Sunday

I cared for team, shaved & bathed & with my young mares took Bro Lyman & Prest. Gowans & wife to Grantsville where we held Ward Con. Apostle Tayler was also there & he & Bro Lyman did the speaking. Prest. Gowans & I went down & administered to Owen Barrus who was afflicted with his eyes. I gave blessings to Sister Rytting, Sis Bell her sister & another Sister Ryttings baby. Staid to evening meeting & got home at 11:30 P.M.

12 April 1897 • Monday

Plowed all day, measured off lots [p. 156] for T Horman & Shaffer & attended a meeting of tax payers who authorized the trustees to sell old adobe house & grounds.

13 April 1897 • Tuesday

Tooele Weather pleasant.

I plowed all day & went to bed early.

14 April 1897 • Wednesday

Tooele Weather pleasant.

I plowed all day 4 horses & gang plow. Painter, Carpenter & tenders working at New house.

15 April 1897 • Thursday

Tooele Weather pleasant.

I plowed all day. Geo. leveled. Retired early.

16 April 1897 • Friday

Tooele Weather fine.

Geo. & Joel went to Town by team for lime paints &c. I took drill to field & commenced drilling with young mares Drilled 6½ acres. Read papers in evening.

17 April 1897 • Saturday

Tooele Weather pleasant.

I leveled & drilled in spring wheat.

Geo. & Joel came from Town with lime & paints arrived about 6 P.M. [p. 157]

18 April 1897 • Sunday

Tooele Weather hot & towards night blustery. I went to Lake View & held Ward Conference there. Took dinner with Elijah Spray After meeting I gave blessings to Miss [blank] Leaver & Moroni Sheets, Sister Louise Shields acted as scribe. In the evening I attended meeting. B. H. Roberts spoke very interestingly. Estella & Hyrum came from Mercur in afternoon. They accompanied Alice & I me to meeting in the evening. Alice & I both have colds.

19 April 1897 • Monday

Tooele Weather warm, Some wind. I hauled Sand with two teams. My boy Geo. driving one team. Took Alice & little girls for a ride in the evening. Hyrum & Estella took a ride in another buggy.

20 April 1897 • Tuesday

Tooele Weather Stormy.

I plowed all day & got wet.

21 April 1897 • Wednesday

Stormy part the day & evening. I hauled four loads Sand from Sillcox two teams. Attended funeral service of Sister Picket & offered opening Prayer Work on house progressing. [p. 158]

22 April 1897 • Thursday

Tooele Weather cold.

I hauled sand with two teams from Silcox. Plowed & planted a few potatoes. Retired early.

23 April 1897 • Friday

Tooele. Weather clowdy.

I plowed, leveled & sowed grain. Geo. & Leg. Went to S. L. City for lime.

24 April 1897 • Saturday

Tooele Weather pleasant.

I attended Conference meetings and towards evening took my folks & Aunt May Whitney for a ride. Bp. St Jeor & Gustave Anderson’s wife took dinner with us. Apostles Grant & Tayler & Golden Kimball were here with us & spoke. Bro. Taylor returned to City in afternoon. Geo & Legrand returned from City about 7 P.M.

25 April 1897 • Sunday

Tooele Weather pleasant.

Very large attendance at Conference.

I spoke a short time in Afternoon.

Gave blessing to Hyrum Lee after Meeting. Bro. C. L. Anderson took dinner with us.

26 April 1897 • Monday

Tooele Weather warm. [p. 159]

I plowed & drilled wheat. Mr. Lionberg commenced at noon to paint foundation.

27 April 1897 • Tuesday

Tooele Weather pleasant until about 7 P.M. when it rained hard for a time. I plowed in forenoon & finished drilling wheat for this Spring put in 19½ acres plowed & planted this spring.

28 April 1897 • Wednesday

Tooele Weather pleasant.

I made gate for field, changed the place of enterence to field &c. Hauled a couple of loads of manure on to the lot. Gave Jas. St. Clair a pig. I planted some cherry trees gotten of Wills.

29 April 1897 • Thursday

Tooele Weather pleasant.

I put in bridge at enterance to Bowen field. Plowed in garden &c. Irrigated lot,

30 April 1897 • Friday

Tooele Weather pleasant

I worked in garden, plowed, leveled & transplanted Straw berries.
