I went to Conference at Grantsville & attended the Meetings Spoke for 35. minutes upon the Subject of sabbath breaking principally no previous preparation. Bro. Lyman rode home with me. [p. 180]
2 August 1897 • Monday
Returned to my work of cutting grain at Steels Lake View early in the morning. Cut all day Slept at steels in wagon of wheat. Legrand with me.
3 August 1897 • Tuesday
I finished cutting grain for Steels 59 A in all & moved upon the hill to Rasmussens & commenced cutting grain.
4 August 1897 • Wednesday
Finished cutting 14½ A of wheat for Rasmussen & moved down to Clarks of E.T. & made a start cutting.
5 August 1897 • Thursday
E.T. Clarks Farm. I cut grain all day
6 August 1897 • Friday
Continued cutting grain for Mrs Clark. Heavy rain at noon stopped uf [us?] off cutting 5 hrs.
7 August 1897 • Saturday
I finished cutting 63 A grain for Sister Clark & moved up to Tooele. I cut a load of my spring grain about two acres.

I cut 18 acres of my grain which finished the Seasons cutting

Threshers all day. Had them to dinner [p. 181]

Finished threshing about 10 A.M. 612 bu wht & 142 bu. barley I cleaned up about stacks & went to Lakeview in afternoon & got 105 bu. toll wheat. from Spray & steel & Rasmussen.
12 August 1897 • Thursday
Made another trip to Lakeview with two teams one 2 horse & one 4 horse team. Got 105 bu. wheat bal. of toll from there for cutting.
13 August 1897 • Friday
I put screen up to hall window. put down carpet in front room & did other indoor work.
14 August 1897 • Saturday
Tooele day at Lake. Geo & Nerva took my carriage & with others went to Lake. I took team & buggy & went to Lake Leg. & Joel accompanied me. I went on into Town & made some purchases. Arrived home at 10 P.M. Sold McBride 100 bu. wheat at 70¢. cash.

Tooele I attended School & offered closing prayr. Bro Lyman present. Bro Craner fell off stand
Attended meeting Bro Lyman present. I read from Des. News of Aug 14, 1897 an ac[p. 182]count of the Moses Thatcher trial by S.L. Stake High Council his compliance & also a 10 page letter from Bro Roberts to Bro Thatcher. This reading occupied 1 hrs time of meeting. Attended circle & presided & offered opening prayr. Mrs Whitney took dinner with us at 6 P.M. Green Corn & Melons. &c.
I wrote up my journal & read the Juvenile & the News. All well.

Tooele Commenced putting up Abram’s hay on shares. Hauled four loads into the stack for one in the field. Hanks & Rimington went in with me. Put 15 loads in stack
17 August 1897 • Tuesday
Put 17 loads hay in stack.
18 August 1897 • Wednesday
Put 15 loads in stack.
19 August 1897 • Thursday
Broke two poles to cable & had to splice them & put 7 loads in stack.

Hauled for self 4¾ tons & put 11 loads in stack.
22 August 1897 • Sunday
Attended meeting & Circle & presided at latter. Pronounced blessing upon Nellie Adams of Eureka. Did some writing

I finished hauling hay for Doremus & for self. Tues.

I went over & saw J. B. Bowden on business [p. 183] Got 3 bu. lime to plaster closet & got Jas St. Clair to run it off. Got my team shoed &c.

Tooele Weather warm.
I worked on wagon box of heavy wagon nearly all day. The plasterer finished closet. Alice was taken sick & I called Dr. Davis in at 12 o’clock Midnight and at 3 4<.03> A.M. Tues 31st The baby (a girl) was born. Sister Mary Dunn was with us and Louise Rimington doing the house work.

Tooele Weather cooler.
Our baby girl came at 4:03 A.M. O.k. I spent most of my time at home in the house. Did some writing. Wrote agreement between Mother & Bro. Bowden. [p. 184] Made two trips to Bowdens got deed & agreement signed & former acknowledged.
