Sister Eliza R. Snow, then arose, requesting the prayers of the Sisters that she might
speak, by the Spirit of the Lord. She thought the present times were a loud sermon to us, speaking of the perilous times now being manifest and the prospect ahead. Was glad to hear Sister [Rachel R.] Grant speak so energetically with regard to the Temple.— It was equally necessary that we be energetic with regard to Home Industries. There seems to be great uncertainty of things pertaining to Babylon, or peace in the World. Prayed that we might always have the Spirit of the Lord, to keep that rebellious Spirit out of Utah. Every thing was so precarious abroad. Was pleased with the energies of the Sisters, so also was Prest. [Brigham] Young. It was desirable that we used our efforts in storing our wheat, for the signs of the times indicated a scarcity of food ere long. We need much wisdom, in relieving the poor, and making the best use of our means. Speaking of the Widow’s mite she gave her all. Believed the Lord required us to devote all to His Service. Felt it would be good for Mothers to so manage their domestic duties, that they could attend these meetings. [. . .] [p. 284]
