Sis. E. R. S. Smith “a sage could not speak better than what you have heard this morning; it is truth. Many societies have done well, but you have done better than all, considering the circumstances. I am astonished at your progress. It is those that help themselves that the Lord helps; God has made known our duties, and it is for us to perform them; new duties, new labors, new energies are required of us, and when we are called to perform any duty, we must make the effort; you must continue to make an effort; don’t be discouraged: discouragement don’t belong to the saints of God; those who have the most energy, the most application will improve the fastest; our sisters here are energetic; we must be devoted; we must be honest [p. 205] and seek earnestly; the influence of God is always around us, when we are trying to do right; Spoke of the necessity of bearing testimonies; I have had to stand before judges & lawyers in court to bear testimony; we want to exercise all of our faculties. Don’t get lifted up in the pride of our hearts. spoke of the fashion & frivolity of the world; of an incident in the Temple of St. George, where some young people were not allowed to go through on account of their clothing; we cannot follow the fashions of Babylon, without partaking of the spirit of Babylon; it takes great stamini [stamina] to resist this temptation. Don’t let evil increase in our midst. God bless you. [. . .] [p. 206] [. . .] [p. 207] [. . .]
Sis E. R. S. Smith “You have had a great many truths spoken to you. Do not trade with outsiders, but with our own people. I see a great many little children here; they can feel the good spirit: related an instance of a little child’s enjoying the spirit at the dedication of the Kirtland Temple. Spoke of the necessity of securing a good husband, one that could go to the holy altar, and be sealed for time and eternity. Be careful in regard to your associates; choose carefully. Spoke of mothers instructing their children in the prin. [principles] of the Gospel; be kind but firm; love begets love; kindness begets kindness. Let us have faith.

Sis. E. R. S. Smith said keep a record of your baptism for you will need it when you go into the Temple.
