Sister Eliza R. Snow Smith said she felt that so many good things had been said & so much important information given, that if we could retain and practice it all, would bring us very near <to> perfection. She was particularly pleased to see some young sisters, Presidents of Associations, rise in the <meeting this> morning to give their reports, with babes in their arms. She did not think the young sisters when married and raising a family, should exclude themselves from all other social duties. The care of her children, is a mothers first duty, but is not all her duty, and no one needs the spiritual sustenance and strength imparted by these meetings more than young mothers. It requires much wisdom to give each duty its due importance. She hoped her life would not be prolonged beyond the point of being useful and helpful to others. Exhorted the sisters to give heed to Sister [Ellen B.] Ferguson’s instructions and suggestions about speaking and reading; would also urge them to learn to spell correctly. Good spelling was one of the most important requisites in education. Without it good reading or writing was impossible. She had been highly pleased and gratified with the Conference, and prayed God to bless all who were interested in the building up of His Kingdom on the earth.
