[. . .] The meeting was was addressed by [. . .] Sister Eliza R. S. Smith who gave much good advice and reviewed the work which had been accompl[i]shed by the Relief Society beginning without means. She encouraged the Sisters to persevere to take care of the poor and urged them to live near to the Lord.

Smith spoke on the growth of infidelity its causes and the necessity of the young being instructed in the principle of the gospel and receiving the Holy sperit to preserve them from evil influences and as a Safe guard aga[i]nst temptation and doubt— referred particularly to the government and disciplin[e] in the tra[i]ning of children and to the correct cultivation of their conscience thought mothers should have the highest and best po[s]sible education.
