Sr. Eliza R Snow then addressed the Meeting saying that she did not stand up to make herself conspicuous but to try to teach the Sisters a few of the principles of the Lord to show them the object of the Relief Society, said she was glad to see so many of the Brethren present for in this Church and Kingdom there was no such thing as dividing the interests of Man & Woman that they were identical that they are coworkers in this Church for the building up of the same and strengthening of each other. that this Society was organized for the Benefit of Women that they might meet together often and build each other up in the faith of the gospel not only to bless and assist the poor and the sick which was a holy righteous work but its chief object was to save the Souls of the children of men and she would ask the Sisters present how many of those present were doing anything for that object that we must not expect to have <all> the things of this world and the Kingdom of God too. she said this Society was organized by Joseph Smith in the early days of the Chu[r]ch and gave an account of the organization of the same telling the duties of all the officers and members.
Sr. Snow then addressed the young Sisters, [n.p.] telling them the benefit of they would derive from having a Retrenchment Society organized among them and told them to consider about it she then prayed the Lord to bless all present with his Spirit continually
