The President [Elizabeth Worlton] then made some opening remarks by way of saying the sisters from Salt Lake were still with us and full of good teachings for us and would give the meeting in their hands. Sister Snow then arose and said they had spoken upon many of the duties pertaining to the Relief Society. but there were many more she would like to relate. said women had a great influence either for good or evil, but we should set a good example before the world. Said she observed in talking with people of the world they acknowledged our principles were true. and in fact too true for them to practice especially when Plural marriage was called in question Because it tends to elevate woman and refine them this practice of Plural marriage. Said she did not know what the sisters of this place think of this practice but was in hopes they favor it. She also refered to an interview shew [she] had had with a lady [Harriet E.] Francis of Greece whom she got acquainted with in Athens. The same lady being here a short time ago this far on her journey on a pleasure tour around the world. when they had quite a conversation together relative to that subject. sister Snow said she fully understands the Lord can-not accomplish his purposes without the practice of Plural marriage. Prolonged her remarks to quite an extent and invoked the blessings of God to rest upon Israel. [. . .] [p. 19]
