July 1855
4–8 July 1855 • Wednesday to Sunday
On Wednesday, July 4th, 1855, Bro. Hyde, Elizabeth and myself walked into town. It was a grand gala day; powder was burnt by the hundred weight; the streets were filled with people. The independent companies and the firemen with their engines, were out & marched in procession. In the evening we held a meeting, Bro. Hyde preached. Having but a short time to stay Bro. H. concluded to return on Thursday by the steamer leaving at 4 p.m. I accompanied him and felt lonely when he left. On Sunday, July 8th, 1855, held meeting[.] I spoke on the first principles and was followed by Bro. Horner, Curtis, &c. Met again in afternoon. I have been busily engaged for a few days back in doing what I could towards getting the press in operation. The ribs are broken and they have to be recast.1
