Sent out ten more invitations to attend meeting Wednesday May 3. Spent the whole day in preparation for meeting and so forth. Reaper’s Club met and I resigned my position as permanent Chairman and Dr. Ellis R. Shipp was elected– the meeting was almost entirely taken up with looking over my book given me on my 70th anniversary. Kindergarten meeting afterwards and business transacted and so forth. In the evening I went to Annie’s and stayed all night John Q. had gone to Gold Hill Mine with some gentlemen from New York City. Frank J. had been obliged to leave him to attend these gentlemen because of his brother in law having been shot and killed by a robber the day before. Such a dreadful tragedy. Annie is not well at all and baby¹ seems quite ill. She is so heavy for Annie to carry about– {p. 106}
